Temaki is a hand-rolled type of sushi characterized by its conical shape. The dish consists of rice, raw fish, and vegetables wrapped in a piece of nori seaweed. Due to the ease of preparation, it is most commonly made at home, and is somewhat hard to find in regular sushi restaurants in Japan.

Traditionally, temaki is prepared for home parties and large family celebrations. It is also a great way of introducing foreigners to sushi. It is almost always eaten by hand because chopsticks are quite unnecessary for this type of sushi. It is recommended to pair temaki with pickled ginger, wasabi, and dipping sauces such as soy sauce and ponzu sauce.
